Arte BDSM / BDSM Art: Carlo's Illustrations for Le cuir triomphant (1934) 2

Prior than John Willie was Carlo. Carlo, an enigmatic illustrator about whom very little is known besides his signed drawings, was the main forerunner of twentieth century fetish and BDSM illustration. His drawings display the full visual and aesthetic repertory of contemporary BDSM, laterly consecrated through magazines like John Willie’s Bizarre. Carlo's drawings are mainly illustrations for novels such as Le cuir triomphant by Alan Mac Clyde, first published in Paris in 1934. This novel constitutes a very important milestone of fetish and leather culture and displays some of the oldest representations of the BDSM Dominatrix as Leather Venus, a subject i am discussing about in another post of this Blog.

Antes que John Willie fue Carlo. Carlo, un enigmático dibujante del que apenas conocemos nada aparte de los dibujos que firmó, fue el gran precursor de la ilustración fetish y BDSM. Entre los años 20 y 30 del siglo XX sus dibujos despliegan ya todos los elementos del repertorio visual y estético del BDSM contemporáneo, que luego se consagraron mediante publicaciones como la revista Bizarre de John Willie. Los dibujos de Carlo son, principalmente, ilustraciones para novelas como Le cuir triomphant de Alan Mac Clyde publicada en París en 1934. Disfrutadlas.
